Cisco intend to expand footprint in Odisha

The networking company Cisco plans to expand its footprint in Orissa. It is in talks with the Orissa government in this regard.The company intends to provide the networking technology to the state government which is going for internal automation and reducing the time of service delivery.

Besides, it is in discussion with the industry and Information Technology (IT) department of the state government to expand it base level course to higher secondary schools, polytechnics, engineering colleges across the state.

“We intend to take our base level course to the higher secondary schools, polytechnics, engineering and other institutes in the state and discussion is going on with the Orissa government in this regard”, Lokesh Mehra, regional manager, corporate responsibility-south Asia said.

Already 6,252 students have successfully graduated in CCNA rural India including technologically states like Kashmir and Orissa.

Addressing the media, Mehra said, Cisco has tied up with nine institutions in the state under its networking academy initiative in Orissa. These include Orissa Computer Application Centre (OCAC), Jaganath Institute for Technology and Management (Centurion group of institutions) at Paralakhemundi and National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) among others. The company will focus on service and building manpower in the state, he added.

Continuing its efforts to penetrate different districts in the state, Cisco intends to go out of Bhubaneswar to make its curriculum available to the students in other parts of the state.

Mukti Misra, chairman, Centurion Group of Institution (CGI) said, the implementation of the state wide area network (SWAN) will require large number of networking professionals. Since the local people will be recruited by the companies, they need to be trained.
