No power cut in Odisha (Orissa) from today

The Odisha government announced an end to powercuts from today as there was sufficient water in reservoirs in the state and hope of arrival of monsoon by early July.

"There will be no powercut and no restriction on industrial use of electricity from today," Energy Minister Atanu S Nayak told reporters here.

Powercuts were imposed since April 5 due to shortage of electricity, which had affected both domestic consumers and commercial users.

The state had arranged for 2725 MW against its average requirement of 2650 MW, he said.

Power generation from the hydro sector had increased to 800 MW. It was also getting 400 MW from captive power plants, Nayak said. The state also received 725 MW as its share from the central pool.
