Reliance BIG Pictures to Produce Odia (Oriya) Film

Now Bollywood Production houses are looking towards regional films. Its a good news for regional films. In Ollywood Rajshri Production has made Shaashu Ghara Chaalijibi in 2005. Now Reliance BIG Pictures is going to produce an Odia (Oriya) film.

Though Big Pictures has made it to news recently for their much-anticipated forthcoming releases Kites and Raavan, few people know that the production house also released a Kannada film Ijjodu three weeks ago. Or that their line-up for regional cinema this year includes Chak Jawana (Punjabi) and Kutty Srank (Malayalam), apart from one each in Odia (Oriya) and Bengali. For the production house, the business of regional cinema is as serious as Bollywood.

Rajshri's regional films, Shaashu Ghara Chaalijibi in Odia (Oriya) and Shubhodrishti in Bengali language released in 2005 were not only commercially successful ventures but also won several awards.

“If you are looking at a nationwide presence, it is impossible to ignore regional cinema,” says Mahesh

Ramanathan, the CEO of Big Pictures. The company may have the biggest line-up, but it sure isn’t the only sizeable production house to have looked beyond the lures of mainstream Bollywood films.
